Five Places You Should Visit in San Francisco

One of the things I love about being a military family is the opportunity to see new places. Since we're currently living near San Francisco, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite areas to visit in the city!

1. Fisherman's Wharf
There are so many things to see and do in this area. One of our favorites is to walk around Pier 39 where there are lots of shops and sometimes even street performers. The Exploratorium and Aquarium are also good spots to visit if you have kids. While you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping in at Boudin's for lunch. It's delicious!

2. Ghirardelli Square
Not far up the road from the Wharf is Ghirardelli Square. I recommend taking the hike up the hill to see this area - especially at Christmas time! While you're there, make sure you stop in the Ghirardelli shop where they're always giving out a sample!

3. Golden Gate Bridge
This is less of a "visit" and more of a "see." I feel like everyone who comes to San Francisco should see the infamous bridge. My first time seeing it was from my husband's boat and I have to say it was quite impressive.

4. Golden Gate Park
This was a recent find and we quickly fell in love with it. This park is full of paths to traverse and places to visit. I highly recommend checking out the observatory at the de Young museum. (The tower is free to visit.) I also recommend the Japanese tea garden, but there is a cost to get in. If you walk all the way to the end of the park, there's even a beach with a nice little restaurant and brewery called the Beach Chalet. Don't let it's appearance deceive you - it's not quite as expensive as it looks!

5. Union Square
This is where you want to go if you're a fan of shopping. I could list all of the shopping available in this section of San Francisco but that's what Google is for! In the winter, there's also a large tree and ice skating rink that adorn this area as well. If you have a shopping bone in your body, then you'll want to make a trip to Union Square.

This is just a small list of places to visit because we're still taking in the sights! I see an add on edition to this post in the future.

Have you been to San Francisco? What are your favorite places to visit in the city?
